Round Status: Opening soon

The Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) were established in 1997 by the Australian Government to celebrate and reward excellence in university teaching. In 2018, responsibility for the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) was handed to Universities Australia (UA) from the Federal Government Department of Education and Training.

UA expect to release information about this year’s scheme soon and have advised that all award categories (Awards for Teaching Excellence, Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning) will proceed in 2018. The criteria in each scheme will remain unchanged.

The AAUT will continue to recognise quality teaching practice and outstanding contributions to student learning, demonstrating excellence in higher education learning and teaching. Recipients, with the support of their institutions, further contribute to systemic change in learning and teaching through the ongoing sharing and dissemination of knowledge.

    * Applicants who are selected to move forward to the full application stage will be provided with a more detailed timeline of activities and actions. Applicants will also receive feedback on their draft application and one-on-one critical friend support from ITaLI to assist with developing the full application.

  • How to apply

    Participation in the AAUT schemes is by invitation. Potential applicants will receive an invitation to submit a draft application in early September 2018.

  • Documentation

    Universities Australia have advised that all award categories (Awards for Teaching Excellence, Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning) will proceed and the criteria will remain unchanged.

  • Information session

    The 'Applying for an Australian Award for University Teaching' Information Session has yet to be scheduled. Check back for updates.

    The session is intended to provide attendees with an overview of the AAUT schemes, eligibility, assessment criteria and application format, as well as UQ’s internal application process and timeline. Applicants will also hear from previous national awardees. Please register to attend via teaching.awards@uq.edu.au
