New Teaching Focused staff wishing to build a profile in the scholarship of Teaching and Learning can apply for a UQ New Staff Start-up Grant - Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

Teaching Focused (TF) staff can apply for the grant at any time of the year, within 12 months of their TF appointment.

The scheme is funded jointly by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and faculties to a maximum combined total of $12,000 per grant per applicant. The total funding allocated to each applicant is at the recommendation of the relevant faculty.

Aims of the New Staff Start-up Grants

The aims of the scheme are:

  1. To encourage new TF staff members to identify and develop an area of professional learning in SoTL that is relevant to their current and intended role; and
  2. To provide limited seed funding as a means of generating future support from competitive internal and external grant schemes.

How to apply

  2. After familiarising yourself with the eligibility and selection criteria, download and complete the New Staff Start-up Grant – SoTL Application Form (DOCX, 297KB).
  3. Submit your completed application form to Please ensure that your application form has been signed by the Head of School and the Teaching and Learning Committee Chair.
