The Summer Research Program provides UQ students with an opportunity to gain experience working alongside a researcher in a formal research environment in their area of interest at UQ.

By participating in the program, scholars will gain valuable academic and professional skills; have an opportunity to develop links with industry and academic contacts; and can test drive research before embarking on further research studies or higher degree research projects.

ITaLI Summer Research Program 2018-19 Scholarships

ITaLI is offering up to six Summer Research Program 2018-19 Scholarships. There are a number of projects to choose from, and these are listed below.

The Summer Research Program is open to undergraduate (including honours) and masters by coursework students who:

  • Are currently enrolled at UQ
  • Are studying for a degree relevant to the research discipline
  • Have a high level of academic achievement during their undergraduate degree
  • Have the potential to and an interest in undertaking postgraduate study (masters or PhD).

Scholars will receive funding equivalent to $360 per week for the duration of the program. To be eligible for funding, scholars will need to meet the following conditions:

  • Participate in the program for six to ten weeks between 19 November 2018 and mid-February 2019
  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

ITaLI will award scholarships based on the academic merit of the applicant, motivation for participating in the program, and the skills and attributes of the applicant to meet the project requirements.

How to apply

  1. Review the Summer Research Program Guidelines for Scholars (PDF, 95KB)
  2. Review the Summer Research Program projects available at ITaLI (see above)
  3. Make contact with the supervisor listed in the project description document via email and provide a copy of your CV. The supervisor will contact you via return email or phone to discuss the project and determine your suitability to carry out the work.
  4. Obtain endorsement from the project supervisor for you to apply (an email will be sufficient)
  5. Submit your application via StudentHub by 31 August 2018
  6. You will be notified of the outcome of your application by mid-October 2018.
