The media room (studio) features a large TV where presenters can be filmed in front of any chosen background, most commonly a PowerPoint presentation. Greenscreen, bluescreen, white or black backdrops are also available. This space can also be used for lightboard recordings and interviews.

A media team member is always on hand to assist with the recording as well as operate the teleprompter, monitor audio and progress slides. Presenters can attend the Writing and presenting educational video workshop for advice on script creation and presenting tips. The Crafting visuals for educational videos in PowerPoint workshop will help you create engaging and accessible presentations.

The pen studios (x2) have large tablets to allow for the capture of written penwork, such as equations, or annotations of diagrams and images. They can also be used for traditional screen recordings that don't require penwork. In addition to screen recording, these sound-proof rooms provide an excellent environment for the capture of audio for podcasts or voice-overs for video. A webcam is also provided and is great for recording introductions and conclusions to screen recordings. While each room may differ in appearance, they are functionally identical and saved files can be accessed via either room's computer.

Before utilising these rooms you will be asked to attend an in-person induction. Before induction, please review the penwork induction video.

The media team also runs an Educational podcast production workshop, empowering participants to create professional recordings.

Production work

The pen studios are ideal for:

  • screen recording software, webpages or anything displayed on the computer screen with voiceover
  • screen recording while incorporating the pen to draw on the screen either for writing equations, annotating diagrams and images, or even creating artwork with voiceover
  • audio recordings for podcasts or voiceovers for videos
  • conducting zoom interviews
  • recording video from a webcam.
