Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and IT Showcase
About the event
Please join us for an afternoon hearing from EAIT academics about designing and implementing inclusive practices, and using AI for student learning.
All from UQ are welcome. This is a hybrid event with discussions in the room but the option to attend online. Zoom link provided to registered participants. Afternoon tea provided for people in the room.
Session 1: Inclusive Teaching and Learning at EAIT
Introducing staff to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and how they can be applied into your unique teaching and learning practice. Using ENGG7901 as an example, we'll explore specific examples of UDL principles applied in practice, academic experience in implementation, and student voice.
Session 2: What generative AI can (and can’t) do for you and your students
Even the AI experts have been surprised the speed by which Generative AI (gen AI such as ChatGPT) has taken the world by storm. In an already crowded curriculum, with the need to safeguard academic integrity, it is tempting for us as busy academics to avoid gen AI in our teaching. However, students routinely use gen AI, and will be expected to do so effectively and ethically once they graduate: if we don’t engage with this technology, we will be left behind, and so will our graduates.
This panel discussion brings together diverse expertise in using gen AI in university teaching to ask, how can we use these tools to enhance rather than undermine student learning? Bring your concerns, your experiences and your challenging questions, and let’s hash out together how we can embrace this brave new world.
