Course Insights

A learning analytics dashboard for UQ teaching staff

Course Insights is an instructor-facing learning analytics dashboard with dynamic student data and support for personalised feedback.

Course Insights aims to build our capability and capacity to provide timely, personalised feedback and analysis on how students are tracking with their learning.

The tool engages teaching staff with real-time student data from multiple sources to help them better understand their students and how they are performing, so that they can determine more effective teaching and learning practices to improve student learning.

The vision of Course Insights is to provide actionable insights for teaching staff by linking data from several UQ sources including mySI-net (enrolment and demographics), Learn.UQ (Blackboard), edX (Edge) (blended learning video and activity usage), Echo360 Lecture Recordings and the Academic Integrity Module. Course Insights can be accessed from within any Learn.UQ (Blackboard) course site.

Key features

  • Filterable and comparative student sub-cohort visualisations enabling staff to compare the whole student cohort with learners from a specific program and/or demographics.
  • Analytics across the course lifecycle to help staff understand the cohort that has enrolled in the course early in the course lifecycle, track student and cohort engagement levels across other platforms including Learn.UQ (Blackboard) and edX (Edge); and see how students are performing in assessment.
  • Provision of personalised feedback by allowing staff to search for and view an overview of enrolment, assessment and engagement information for individual students, in relation to the entire cohort or a filtered group and send targeted email feedback.
