The session gives an overview of learning support available to students via UQ’s Academic Skills Advisers. The aim is to equip attendees with information necessary to help students achieve academic success. We'll demonstrate how our services assist and inspire students at all levels of study: undergraduate, postgraduate and HDR. The key take-away: Academic Skills Advisers are useful for all students, not just those that are struggling.

We'll showcase real-life student queries about coursework and research, shedding light on common challenges around the student learning experience. These insights are useful for course coordinators, lecturers and tutors in addressing areas of difficulty for students. We’ll also explore ways that Academic Skills Advisers can directly support staff in the University.

To conclude, we'll share digital resources suitable for integration into Blackboard course areas, providing further avenues for student support and engagement.

What you will learn:

  • Learn how you can encourage students to excel in their studies by taking advantage of the services Academic Skills Advisers provide
  • Understand the resources and supports available to you as student-facing staff in the University.

Who should attend:

  • Course coordinators
  • Academic teaching staff
  • Lecturers
  • Tutors
  • Anyone with a student-facing role.

This session is highly recommended for new teaching staff at the University of Queensland.

Presenters:
