Invitation to learn

This workshop series brings critical thinking into focus through the lens of learning and assessment design. Participants will work with presenters to identify areas of knowledge development within their courses that allow for critical thinking activities. They will then develop these activities to precisely target key aspects of critical thinking, making them explicit and accessible to students. Plans for implementation will be discussed and shared with colleagues, and a range of metrics established to identify successful outcomes. A review of practice and results will be shared to deepen understanding across contexts and explore possibilities for novel approaches.

Key outcomes include:

  • a clear and actionable concept of critical thinking in subject area contexts
  • the ability to more precisely articulate and target the development of student thinking

  • key concepts and vocabulary that provide feedback to students on the quality of their thinking

  • empowering participants to engineer critical thinking learning experiences and task design with precision and intentionality.

Facilitators

Dr Peter Ellerton, Dr Yael Leibovitch and Dr Andrew Beencke.
