Student retention

Aim

To investigate student retention using a risk management approach and to develop evidence-based support strategies to maximise and facilitate student completion at UQ.

Significance

Increase UQ’s student retention rate.

Data Platform Capability

Aim

To develop and expand the analytic and big data management capability of the Learning Analytics team using big data tools in cloud based environments.

Significance

  • Increase analytic capability and access to institutional datasets.
  • Innovate with the use of new big data technologies.

UQ2U Analytics

Aim

To provide a framework of using proprietary and open source tools (including LOOP, OnTask and AWA) and models to support teaching staff and students to make informed decisions and develop better understanding and engagement with teaching and learning concepts.

The UQ2U analytics solution will also be available for the UQ-Monash co-developed courses delivered via the edX Edge Platform.

Significance

  • Course-level academic-facing platforms that provide information about online and in-class engagement, at-risk students and assessment, and facilitate the instructor-student feedback loop.
  • Development of course-level student-facing platforms that inform students about their engagement and learning.

UQ2U Evaluation

Aim

To develop an agile evaluation and enhancement framework that provides interim feedback for the design and course build process, alongside a longer term understanding of the impact of the blending process.

Significance

Provide course coordinators and course design teams with timely data to improve design and delivery process, as well as to understand the strengths and challenges of each course.

RiPPLE: An Adaptive Learning Platform

Aims

  • To enhance and validate RiPPLE, that recommends personalised practice questions to students based on their knowledge state, from a pool of questions that are generated by educators and the students themselves.
  • To further develop peer recommendation to enhance the development of a sense of community and fostering student relationships.

Significance

Assist educators in providing a tailored learning experience for each student based on their academic ability.

Educational Impact Network

Aims

  • To bring together colleagues with an interest in higher education, curriculum development, learning analytics, educational technologies, assessments and Students as Partners.
  • To build capacity across UQ to carry out multidisciplinary initiatives that support teaching and learning strategic priorities, as well as enable UQ to be a world leader in shaping the future of higher education. Specific sessions on blended learning, evaluation and course design will be conducted to facilitate educational research in the area of learning analytics.

Significance

The Educational Impact Network draws on the expertise of scholars who make a significant and original contribution to the theory, practice and research of higher education to share and present ideas on interdisciplinary areas in higher education.
