The Active Learning Pathways Project (ALPP) was developed to increase the uptake of active learning approaches within and across schools in the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences through building the capacity of academics to embed active learning strategies in first year and second year courses.

Using an action research approach, the project provided support and resources to academics working in 15 courses across all schools in the Faculty to develop, implement and evaluate active learning strategies. These strategies included the embedding of a range of technologies, community and industry engagement, and developing a flipped classroom approach.

Staff were supported through the development of a community of practice, workshops, and mentoring from the project team and ITaLI staff. Student feedback about their learning experiences indicated improved understanding of content, greater enjoyment and engagement in learning, and enhancement of academic skills and community engagement.
