AI access and training

Access to AI tools and training is essential for preparing students to use AI effectively and ethically in their studies and future careers. UQ provides staff and students with enterprise-supported tools, alongside workshops and online resources to support responsible AI use. This page offers guidance on recommending appropriate tools, connecting you with resources and people, and fostering critical engagement with AI in your teaching.

UQ AI tools for staff and students

UQ provides access to Microsoft Copilot for the web for students and staff. This tool provides enterprise data protection for the data you use, with a chat interface that enables you to generate text and images.

The Adobe Creative suite is available to students at UQ, and includes Firefly to generate images and Express to help design videos, flyers, presentations and others.

UQ does not have an institutional license or pre-approved use for ChatGPT, Claude.AI or Google’s Gemini. These tools may be used by staff with specific permissions and conditions as they do not provide enterprise protection for the data used.

ITaLI facilities workshops, seminars and communities to support staff adapting their teaching in response to the changes in AI.

ITS provides guidance in the use of copilot, guidance for accessing Adobe software and guidance for using AI .

There are a range of student workshops, online guides and modules for students outlined on the AI Student Hub, via UQ Library.

Additional platforms

Key AI tools and training in the Artificial Intelligence Digital Essentials module lists useful tools for text, image, audio and video generation. 
AI models and tools has links to applications, projects and searching tools. 
AI tools for literature searching has links to tools that focus academic sources.

If you require students to use AI in your courses, we recommend Microsoft Copilot and Adobe Express where feasible, but we also recognise that there may be disciplinary needs for specific tools.

ITS provides a range of software for staff and students through the UQ Digital Workspace alongside options to request additional software for your courses.
