Teaching Project
There are two ways to complete Teaching Project:
- As a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching Practice student
- refer to EDHE6004 course listing for details and enrol through mySI-net.
- As standalone professional development activity
- open to UQ staff not enrolled in the GCUTP. See below for details and application instructions.
Course overview
This course gives you the opportunity to network and collaborate with others while testing and leading innovation through the development of a scholarly educational project. You will investigate an aspect of teaching and learning of mutual interest to you and your School or department. Supported by workshops, mentors and networks, you will develop a complete and viable proposal in an area of relevance to teaching and learning in your context. This course enables you to engage with innovation, educational reform and scholarship in order to develop your teaching expertise through scholarship and inquiry.

Teaching Project is free to UQ staff.
Course offerings
This course is typically offered once per year. Confirmation of each offering is dependent on sufficient enrolment numbers.
All course activities are held in person at the St Lucia campus.

Time commitment
Participants are expected to actively participate in all course activities. In addition to the time spent in workshops and professional learning communities, you should anticipate approximately 10-12 hours per week for preparatory work, independent study and assignments.
Outcome
This course is designed to cultivate your academic leadership by guiding you through a project of your choosing – one that allows you to demonstrate and strengthen your ability to lead within your field. You'll engage in deep reflection, critically analyse an area of your teaching expertise. You will explore new perspectives while honing your leadership skills and driving meaningful change in your teaching and learning environment.
By the end of the course, you won’t just have refined your own approach – you’ll have developed and implemented impactful strategies, materials, or activities that showcase your leadership in action. This process is about more than personal growth; it’s about setting a vision, inspiring others, and leaving a lasting mark on educational practice.
Credential / Recognition
To successfully complete the course, you'll need to actively participate in the workshops and online activities, engage with peer feedback, and pass all required assessments.
Recognition of Prior Learning in the Graduate Certificate in University Teaching Practice
The Teaching Project course is not eligible for RPL within the GCUTP. If you are currently enrolled in, or planning to enrol in, the GCUTP, you will be required to complete this course as part of the program.
Depending on the nature of your Teaching Project, you may be able to develop a case study to support an application for HEA Senior Fellowship.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants should meet all of the following criteria:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline
- Be employed at UQ with teaching and/or teaching support responsibilities (full-time, part-time, or sessional) for the duration of the course
- Demonstrate substantial teaching responsibilities over a period of more than 3 years, extending beyond occasional lecturing or tutoring
- Have the support of your Head of School or Supervisor to participate.
If you do not meet all eligibility criteria, your application may not be approved.

Apply for the Semester 2, 2025 offering by 5pm, Friday 20 June 2025.
Please note: GCUTP students must enrol in Teaching Project (EDHE6004) through mySI-net.
Course quota
Enrolments are capped at 50 participants per offering, including both GCUTP students and professional learning participants. Applying does not guarantee enrolment.
Where a course is oversubscribed, GCUTP students will be given first preference, followed by ranking based on appointment classification and type, with priority to continuing staff.
